Last week I celebrated my birthday in Vail, Colorado with my significant other. We spent our time enjoying the outdoors, the unique shops inside the village, and fabulous meals. From the first day we arrived to the day we headed back to Denver, I noticed a change within me. To my surprise it was not the additional year older that inspired change. It was much more than a number!
Upon arrival, I noticed that I was excited about the weekend ahead, yet also having a difficult time letting go of my “to-do” list in the back of my mind. I have been working on numerous projects and as the year has progressed, change is knocking at my door. Change is in the air, yet it is just the beginning of it all! Similar to the water in an ocean, I felt a stretch of calm, soothing water and then all of a sudden, I would feel a crashing wave of anxiety flow in. I physically stopped what I was doing, checked in with my heart and listened to the voice within. My heart yearned to let go of the past, the “to-do” list, the uncertainty of the future and be in the present moment.
When we find ourselves caught up in the world around us, it is a call to bring our mind, body, heart, and spirit into balance. Spending time in nature is a powerful way to experience harmony. Once I stopped and listened to my heart, we left the shops in the village and sat down with our favorite iced mocha to admire the beautiful mountains. The following day we hiked 4.5 miles up the mountain, which kept me fully present and brought (happy) tears to my eyes the minute I saw the incredible view. My mind, body, heart and spirit felt cleansed and renewed. I realized that although change is here, I am safe. Guidance is available every step of the way.
I invite you to take some time in nature this month or do something you love to do. Quiet your mind so that you can hear the whispers in your heart. Where are you being called to accept change into your life and begin anew?
